Allo all

I was wondering about suspended orders... I have tried suspending an active order and clicking suspend seems to do nothing. On the view menu where active orders, completed orders etc. are listed I don't see a suspended orders item. Help topic 5.4 shows what suspend should do. Has the feature perhaps been - uh... "suspended"?

Then, during today's SAFEX crash, the JSE suspended? / cancelled all open orders. On trying to restart Swordfish no data would load and I got a fairly exotic error to the effect that the iceberg quantity column doesn't belong under suspended orders. Maybe I just broke it. I see there is an iceberg quantity column under active orders. Well I never... What on earth is an iceberg quantity? An outhouse full?

Reinstalling Swordfish took care of the error.

Hi Craig,

Suspending orders is functionality that is limited to brokers.  What happened with yesterday's SAFEX crash is that they suspended all the active orders at restart.  The intention then was that your broker should resubmit (or not, depending on the end-user's wishes) those orders on your behalf.

The error you report is interesting and we'll look into it.  Iceberg orders will be available after the next code release by SAFEX (end of August).  If you, for example, wish to sell 100 ALSI contracts without exposing the entire lot at once to the market, then you could use an Iceberg order, where the total quantity is 100 and you wish to place orders of 10 contracts at a time into the market until the entire 100 is filled.
