So, we are now living in the 21:st century. Why oh why - if we want to develop something against SwordFish -  do we have to use a technology from the stone age (well, at least 10 years old), which in addition also has been abandoned, buried and forgotten? I am obviously talking about DDE.

I have seen the replies to previous questions about an API, but that was over a year ago. Where are we now regarding API's? Would it be so terribly difficult to develop an API that at least would give us prices and the ability to submit orders?

Hi Estuary
I'm with Niels on this one. I found find a proper API most useful. Could you please advise on a timeline for releasing this functionality?

Thanks: 1 times
Hey guys,

I'd like to add my voice to nielsb and Monkey on this - we would greatly appreciate a proper API to trade algorithmically.

Our alternative is to take our business to other trading platform providers that have APIs. Sadly there are none available for the SA market at present, unless I have overlooked something. So it is overseas markets for us then?

I am considering making large investments (both in terms of time and energy) in this, and I'd prefer to trade through you guys. Would you be so kind as to provide us with a clear answer (Yes/No) and timeframe for API development? We need to do planning etc.

Thank you for your help!

Cheers,

Bliksem

Currently there is an API to Swordfish via Excel.  With this API you can submit and cancel orders.  You will receive feedback on the order's status (active, partially filled, completed, cancelled) and you can also receive a live price feed.  To create the logic behind an automated system you have the choice of virtually any programming language that is able to communicate with Excel as well as native Excel Macros.

We are busy working on some sample Excel workbooks to demonstrate how certain scenarios could work and these will be uploaded to the sfExcel forum topic when ready.

I guess what you really are saying is NO, there won't be an API to code directly against. This is very disappointing to hear, especially since I had my hopes up after having had discussions with you guys via email.

However, all may not be lost since there are a couple of brokers who I have been in contact with that would be willing to come up with alternative solutions to Estuary and Swordfish, and provide a proper API. So if anyone is interesting reading this, PM me and we can discuss further.

For the life of me, I cannot see where to PM on this forum.  Niels, I'm interested in any info you have.  Please send me a message to freakygreenleaky [at] gmail [dot] com.

Thanks!

Has there been any progress on the development of an API? I am looking to develop an algorithmic trading system and an API would be most useful...

Circumstances have forced our development focus elsewhere currently.  Please see the following post for details.
